Veteran Lyon defender Cris believes that although Real Madrid are favourites to progress from the Round of 16 tie between the clubs, the French side may have a psychological advantage over the Spanish giants.

Lyon meet Los Blancos for the first leg of their tie tonight and know that they face a Real Madrid side that is much changed from the one they put out twelve months ago.

"We think of course", said Cris when asked whether Lyon have a psychological advantage over the Spanish.

"This is normal. We played six times against Real with three wins and three draws. Each game has a different story."

But the Brazilian thinks that the urge of getting past the Round of 16, a hurdle Real keep stumbling at, will give them extra motivation.

"This will be more complicated because Real Madrid have not got passed the second round in six years. Last year, Madrid were eliminated by Lyon and now there is some rivalry between both teams."

The first leg looks crucial to Lyon, with the French side surely needing at least a two-goal cushion to take to the Spanish capital.
