Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has praised the club’s fans, believing that their demanding nature has made him a much better player.
Valdes has had his troubles at the Camp Nou, most notably in the 2005/06 campaign, where under Frank Rijkaard, the keeper was often whistled by the crowd, who demanded better from their number 1.
“Nobody liked to be whistled at”, admitted Valdes, “even less so at your own ground. The whistles were for things I didn’t do well, and over the years you realise that it’s fairly normal. If I had to thank the fans for anything, who’ve been pretty demanding with me, it is that they have helped me become a stronger player in every sense.
“They’ve made me a better goalkeeper over the years due to the pressure they’ve put me under.”
