Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes the side were fortunate to lose by just one goal away to Braga in the Europa League last night.
The Reds went behind after just 18 minutes in Portugal, as defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos fouled Braga's Mossoro in the box and Alan scored the resulting penalty. And Liverpool's first half display was so bad that Dalglish was surprised they did not concede more goals before the break.
"It was a very poor first half performance from ourselves", said Dalglish post match. "We have no complaints whatsoever about the penalty.
"We picked up a little bit in the second half and looked a bit more threatening, especially after Andy [Carroll] came on and I think we were probably denied a stonewall penalty ourselves. But to play the way we did in the first half and come away only one goal behind means we were very fortunate."
"Although they never created a great deal and we created most of our problems, when you play as badly as that you are fortunate to only lose 1-0."
Liverpool must now wait until next Thursday for their chance to overturn the one goal deficit at Anfield. Dalglish's men are not in action this weekend, with the FA Cup taking centre stage, so the Scot has time to ensure his troops are fully prepared for the battle that lies ahead.
