Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has basked in the promising performances of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez as the Reds’ new strike duo were paired together against Sunderland.
The Anfield side comfortably won the game at the Stadium of Light, with goals from Dirk Kuyt (penalty) and Suarez proving enough to hand the visitors a 2-0 win and keep up the pressure on those sides above them in the top five.
But it was Carroll and Surarez’ partnership that impressed Dalglish.
"The two lads we brought in during January played together for the first time today and showed a lot of very encouraging signs.
"Andy made a fantastic physical effort to play 90 minutes on Thursday and another 70 today. Luis chipped in with a fantastic goal and the two of them showed encouraging signs of what we can look forward to."
And for Dalglish, the early nature of the understanding handed him more encouragement.
"I don’t think there is a set time for partnerships to form. It either happens or it doesn’t. It was encouraging."
