The coach of Sporting Lisbon next season is looking more likely than ever to be a Dutchman. Currently the Portuguese giants are in the midst of their presidential election campaigns, with the two leading candidates both promising Dutch solutions to Sporting’s coaching position.
Bruno Carvalho, a presidential candidate, has named Marco van Basten as his choice to become Sporting’s boss, stating: "If elected, [Van Basten] will be our next coach."
The other candidate, Jose Dias Ferreira, meanwhile has promised Frank Rijkaard as coach if he is elected Sporting’s new president.
With the Lisbon side falling well adrift of rivals Benfica and FC Porto this season, the Sporting faithful are looking for the candidate, and coach, who will catapult them back to the top of the league.
