Manchester United are expected to step up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea to ensure that the young Spaniard is Edwin van der Sar’s successor at Old Trafford next season.

According to Spanish daily AS, Atletico are bracing themselves for a new offer from Sir Alex Ferguson’s team and expect it to be difficult to turn down.

De Gea is rated at around the €20M bracket and his signature would be a real coup for United.

A future Spain number 1 in the making, the 20-year-old progressed through the Atletico youth ranks before being handed his senior debut in 2009. Since then De Gea has gone on to establish himself with the Madrid giants and picked up the Europa League with the club last season. Nevertheless, a move to Old Trafford would be hard to resist.
