Sources in France suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are keen to bring Nicolas Anelka back to the capital club. Anelka began his career with PSG before being snapped up by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in 1997 for just £500,000, and his return would be a symbolic one for the Ligue 1 side.

Sat in fifth in the league at present, PSG still have hope of taking a Champions League spot, an avenue which would open up the extra finance required to be able to afford Anelka. And even if the Parc des Princes outfit fail to make Europe’s showpiece competition, they will still look at ways a deal can be done for the striker.

The former Real Madrid forward found himself back at PSG in 2000, staying for two years before joining first Liverpool on loan and then Manchester City on a permanent basis. His return would be well received and, at 32 years old, the Frenchman may well feel the time has come to head back home.
