Borussia Dortmund are ready to up the stakes in their bid for Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo in order to see off competition from Ruhr rivals Schalke.

Schalke have tracked Melo and reports from Germany suggested the Bundesliga side were ready to offer Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in part-exchange for the Brazilian. Such a deal could prove attractive to Juventus given that the Bianconeri are desperate to take a top quality striker to Turin this summer.

Now however, Dortmund, who had begun the bidding at €12M, are ready to increase their offer for Melo by a further €3M, meaning Juventus could realise a fee of €15M for a player who has failed to hit the heights in Turin.

Upon arriving at Juventus from Fiorentina, Melo was expected to take his game to the next level, but has disappointed in a black and white shirt.
