La Liga outfit Villarreal are the latest side to be linked with a move for Panathinaikos striker Djibril Cisse.
The French forward is expected to leave Greece after a turbulent season with the Greens, a campaign which has seen Panathinaikos dethroned as Super League champions by their arch rivals Olympiacos. And Cisse, who was involved in an extraordinary war of words with the Olympiacos president after one of the season’s derbies, is keen to leave Athens.
Villarreal who, despite bullish statements to the contrary, privately expect to lose Giuseppe Rossi this summer, are thought to have identified Cisse as a potential replacement.
There does however look set to be considerable opposition for the 29-year-old’s signature.
