Manchester United are revelling in a record 19th top flight title after securing the point they needed at Blackburn Rovers yesterday. United fell behind to a first half Brett Emerton strike, but a Wayne Rooney penalty in the second half was enough to ensure the game ended all-square.
And for the United that was enough to give themselves an insurmountable lead over second placed Chelsea, meaning Sir Alex Ferguson had clinched his 12th Premier League title.
With the trophy being their 19th top flight honour, United now move one ahead of bitter rivals Liverpool and hold the record for the most number of English championships won.
"It’s a tough league to win and you can see by the celebrations it’s still as special as ever", said Ryan Giggs, who has played in every one of Ferguson’s Premier League winning sides.
"This is what you live for. This is why I’m still playing at 37, for these moments. It gets better and better."
But Ferguson was instantly turning his thoughts to the future and what he needs to do to make sure United continue to win trophies.
"There’s a responsibility as the manager of Manchester United", said Ferguson.
"It doesn’t go away. I’m not changing anything. I’m not going to take it easy because we won the title today. Hopefully we’ll be better next season."
