Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has dedicated the club’s FA Cup victory to the side’s fans. A Yaya Toure strike in the second half at Wembley was enough to beat Stoke City 1-0 and end City’s long wait for silverware, with the last trophy having been won back in 1976.

But Mancini was keen to stress that the achievement was for the club’s fans, who had been forced to wait 35 years for silverware while watching rivals Manchester United sweep all before them.

"I am happy for the fans, they deserved to win this cup. For a long time they didn’t win", said the City boss.

"My feeling is good, but it’s important they feel good."

And coach David Platt backed up Mancini’s view, stating that simply winning something was enough to delight the fans and it was long overdue.

"Getting to the FA Cup final was terrific and beating Manchester United in the semi-final, but now there are a lot of people going back up the motorway very happy because of having won something for the first time in 35 years, it is a major trophy", said Platt.
