Blackburn Rovers are believed to be considering a move for former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard has been out of work since being sacked as Inter coach just before Christmas, but wants to return to management, and preferably in the Premier League.

Having secured their survival yesterday, Rovers are expected to spend heavily over the summer in order to realise their Indian owners’ dream of a top six finish in the 2011/12 campaign.

And it seems possible that current manager Steve Kean may not be considered the man lead the Ewood Park side to such a feat.

Whether Benitez will be open to a return to English football with Blackburn remains unclear, although with the club based in the North West of England, the Spaniard could commute from his current home on Merseyside.

However, recent events at Stamford Bridge, with the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, have raised the intriguing prospect that Benitez could be considered for the Chelsea job. Therefore, the ex-Liverpool boss will surely want to wait until the dust has settled on a frantic end to the Premier League season.
