Manchester United forward Federico Macheda may remain at Old Trafford next season rather than move elsewhere.

The Italian striker is keen to make his mark at United, but was sent to Sampdoria in the January transfer window for more first team football to aid his development.

Now, with his loan spell at the relegated Serie A giants having come to an end, his agent Giovanni Bia believes that the player’s future next season looks likely to be at Old Trafford, instead of elsewhere.

"He is in Manchester to rest", said Bia to Tutto Mercato when asked about Macheda.

"After the weekend I will talk to Sir Alex Ferguson, but I think that Federico has a 90% chance of remaining at United."

The striker disappointed at Sampdoria, failing to find the net in any of his 14 Serie A appearances. The United man managed just one goal in his loan spell, that coming in the Coppa Italia.
