Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola has told his players that simply repeating their 2009 Champions League final performance against Manchester United at Wembley this evening won’t be good enough to secure them the trophy once again.
In 2009, the Catalans scored early through Samuel Eto’o and began to control the game. When Lionel Messi added a second after 70 minutes, the contest was all over and it had been a comfortable night for the Spaniards.
But Guardiola does not believe simply repeating the same performance will prove enough against the same opposition.
"If we play as we did in Rome, this time we won’t win", said the Barcelona coach.
"We played worse in Rome than we wanted to.
"We need to play much better than in 2009 and this is the thing I’ve told my players over the past two days."
