Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has raised the intriguing possibility that midfielder Diego could yet remain at the Volkswagen Arena.

The Brazilian had angered Magath through snubbing a spot on the bench when Wolfsburg met Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and this, combined with poor performances this season and a number of trespasses against former coach Steve McClaren, had led to talk that Diego’s days were numbered.

Indeed, it was even believed the German side had dropped their €15M asking price for the playmaker to a very reasonable €10M to facilitate a move.

But Magath has played down talk that he is so angered with Diego that the player is definitely leaving Wolfsburg and instead expects to see the former Juventus schemer back for pre-season training.

"There is a lot of talk with regards to Diego’s recent disciplinary misconduct", said Magath.

"I am not concerned with that, I am waiting for him and I expect to see him for the pre-season training camp after the summer break."

Despite Magath’s words however, it would still be a surprise to see Diego begin next season at Wolfsburg.

Most recently linked with a bid have been English Premier League giants Liverpool, a destination that would surely appeal to the Brazilian, while AC Milan are also watching developments closely.
