Middle East nation Qatar are eyeing a swoop for Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola to take over their national team in 2013.
The Catalan boss enjoys a good relationship with senior officials in Qatar and even spent time in the country as a player. These links have only been strengthened by Barcelona’s recently signed sponsorship deal with the Qatar Foundation, whose name will be carried on the front of the club’s shirts next season.
According to Madrid-based daily Marca, President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Bin Ahamd Al Thani, is desperate to appoint Guardiola to take charge of the Qatar national team.
The Qataris are well aware however that Guardiola is entrenched in his post as Barcelona boss and therefore only see this as a realistic option two years hence.
Guardiola would be well compensated for his troubles, with a package worth some €36M a year mooted.
