Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is tracking Mexican youngster Erick Torres as his bids to repeat the success of his signing of Javier Hernandez last summer.

Mexican international Hernandez arrived at United from CD Guadalajara after the 2010 World Cup and was an instant hit, standing out in last season’s Premier League campaign and being a driving force behind the Old Trafford club’s march to a record 19th top flight title and Champions League final appearance.

Now Ferguson is considering whether he can repeat the trick with 18-year-old Torres.

A striker, Torres too turns out with Guadalajara and managed seven goals in his first year of senior football in 2010.

Currently participating in the esteemed Toulon Tournament, United’s scouts are running the rule over the Mexican to assess just how deep his talent is and whether he could replicate the success of Hernandez at Old Trafford.

Known as "El Cubo", The Cube, Torres is tipped to follow in Hernandez’ footsteps and improve again next season with his Mexican club. United may have to make the decision of whether to launch a swoop now, or hold off to monitor his progress further, but risk other clubs entering the race.
