Lionel Messi does not believe that Barcelona deserve to be considered the best team in the history of football. While the Argentine places the current crop at the Camp Nou up there with the very best, he nevertheless believes that they are not yet the best ever.

Messi was once again a crucial part of a Barcelona side that won a third consecutive La Liga title and a second Champions League in three years, seeing off the challenge of Manchester United at Wembley last month. But more must be done to be hailed as the best side in the history of the game.

"I do not say that we’re the best team in history because there were great teams at different times", Messi told Italian daily Il Mattino.
"But we have shown that we deserve to be remembered."

And Messi was in no doubt as to what lies behind Barcelona’s tremendous success – sheer hard work.

"There is no great secret to the great season we’ve had at Barcelona", said the little Argentine, "just trust in your abilities and put in great effort."

Messi is now preparing for July’s Copa America, which Argentina will host, saying "it would be spectacular for the fans", if the Albiceleste could lift the trophy.
