Arsenal have been linked with a £2M swoop for Mexican youngster Carlos Fierro after being impressed with his performances in the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

The Mexicans hosted and won the tournament, beating Uruguay with a 2-0 victory in the final staged at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday.

16-year-old Fierro, who plays as a striker, bagged four goals in the competition and impressed throughout, showing more than enough glimpses of genuine talent to suggest that he is set for a big future in the game.

The Gunners had several scouts at the tournament and glowing reports on Fierro appear to have been filed back at the Emirates.

Currently plying his trade for domestic side Guadalajara, the player’s attitude towards a switch to Arsene Wenger’s talent factory remains unknown, but the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Carlos Vela and Javier Hernandez – both Guadalajara youth products – by moving to England would undoubtedly be an attractive one.
