Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala are interested in Chelsea full back Yuri Zhirkov.

Anzhi have been on a spending spree in 2011, signing Roberto Carlos, Diego Tardelli, Mbark Boussoufa and Balazs Dzsudzsak, with the aim very much to qualify for the Champions League.

With money no object for the Russians, bids have also been made for Santos’ striker Neymar and Inter hitman Samuel Eto’o – but both look unlikely to head east.

Zhirkov however is a much more attainable target for Anzhi and Chelsea would be prepared to let the former CSKA Moscow left back-cum-left-midfielder head back to his homeland.

Anzhi have been mooted as informing Chelsea they would pay £15M for the 27-year-old, money the English club could instantly then put to use in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur schemer Luka Modric.

Zhirkov moved to Stamford Bridge in 2009 but has failed to clock up 20 league appearances per season during any of his years with Chelsea.

Last year the Russian featured only 12 times in the English Premier League.
