AC Milan picked up the first silverware of the new Italian season yesterday by beating bitter rivals Inter 2-1 in the Super Cup.

The traditional season opener was staged in Beijing, the second time that the Super Cup has been contested in China.

Inter opened the scoring through Wesley Sneijder after 23 minutes and headed into the half time break with a 1-0 cushion.

However, in the second period the Rossoneri pushed and struck twice; the first time through Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 60th minute, while just nine minutes later Kevin-Prince Boateng scored what would prove to be the winner.

The victory was saluted by Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri, who admitted that the Rossoneri did not enjoy the best start to the game, in part because of Inter.

"We knew it would be a difficult game, a derby", said Allegri.

"We did not start well, also thanks to Inter. Then, after their goal, we grew."
