Emiliano Insua has been allowed to leave Liverpool for Sporting Lisbon.

The Argentine full back, who spent last season on loan with Turkish outfit Galatasaray, has found there is no space at Anfield and his four-year association with Liverpool has come to an end.

Insua has signed a five-year contract with Sporting Lisbon.

Still just 22 years old, Insua was brought to Liverpool by former manager Rafael Benitez as part of a drive to unearth gems from South America.

The Argentine often struggled with the pace of the English Premier League, but still clocked up 60 appearances for the Reds.

The left back however is happy to have moved to Portugal, with more first team football sure to be on offer.

"I am delighted to start training and playing here", said Insua. "Sporting is one of the big Portuguese clubs and is recognised for having top players.

"The club is always looking to win titles. I will give everything for Sporting."
