Newcastle United have snapped up Italian full back Davide Santon from Inter.

Santon was turned to by Magpies’ boss Alan Pardew after PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters and Lyon full back Aly Cissohko proved too expensive.

The 20-year-old Italian has inked a five-year deal at St. James’ Park and is a replacement for Spaniard Jose Enrique, who was sold to Liverpool.

"We are delighted to bring Davide to Newcastle", said Pardew to the club’s official website.

"He is a quality left back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence.

"Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly."

The former Nerazzurri star was also beaming at having signed up with Newcastle.

"I am really pleased to sign for Newcastle.

"The chance to play in the Premier League and in front of 50,000 fans at St. James’ Park was too good to turn down."
