Fulham have confirmed the signing of Hugo Rodallega, who joins the club on a free transfer after not extending his contract with Wigan.
The Colombian striker’s future at the Latics was in doubt since the summer of 2011, and when the club did not allow him to leave, the player decided to not sign a contract extension and opted to run down his contract which ended in June.
There was a lot of interest from foreign and local clubs in the Colombian and after due deliberation, the former Wigan forward has chosen to sign for Martin Jol’s Fulham. The 26-year-old joins the Cottagers on a three-year deal which should keep him at the club until July, 2015.
Rodallega is happy to have joined Fulham and said that he was looking forward to meeting up with his new team-mates.
“I’m thrilled to have signed for Fulham Football Club”, said the player while speaking outside Fulham’s training ground. “I wanted to stay in England and I’m delighted that I now have this opportunity with Fulham. I’m looking forward to pre-season training with the rest of the Fulham squad and starting a new chapter in my career”, added the Colombian.
Jol is also happy to have captured an experienced Premier League striker and said that the player will provide a much needed boost to the club.
“I am delighted that Hugo has decided to join Fulham”, said the 56-year-old to the club’s official website. “He is a great addition and I think he will contribute very well to our style and philosophy here”, added the former Tottenham manager.
Rodallega made 112 appearances for Wigan in the Premier League and scored 24 goals. The Craven Cottage faithful will be looking for something similar from the Colombian when he dons the Fulham shirt.
