Paris Saint-Germain could be set to complicate Tottenham Hotspur’s potential sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid by bidding for Spurs’ preferred replacement for the Croatian, Joao Moutinho.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men want to sign a playmaker and had originally set their sights on taking Modric from White Hart Lane.

But the Croatia international has his heart set on moving to Real Madrid, despite the transfer turning into a protracted saga.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has accepted that Modric will most likely leave White Hart Lane and has identified Moutinho as his preferred successor.

Villas-Boas knows all about the Portugal schemer and coached him as part of his treble-winning Porto side in the 2010/11 campaign.

The former Chelsea boss is believed to have been planning to move for the 25-year-old when Modric is sold – although if PSG get their way then Moutinho may not be available.

Money is no object for Ancelotti’s men and the Parc des Princes has emerged as a possible destination for the Porto midfielder.

Moutinho would surely find turning down the chance to play for what is turning into an all-star PSG team difficult.

Porto meanwhile could be confident of a hefty fee for the player.
