Former Holland striker Patrick Kluivert has joined new Oranje coach Louis van Gaal’s coaching staff.

Van Gaal officially starts work as Holland’s new national team boss today and has already added Danny Blind as his first assistant coach.

Now Kluivert is joining the former Barcelona manager as his second assistant as Van Gaal begins to shape his backroom staff ahead of Holland’s push to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Kluivert will combine his role with his current coaching assignment at FC Twente; the 36-year-old coaches the Tukkers’ youth team.

Van Gaal knows the former striker well, having bossed him at Ajax and Barcelona.

Kluivert hung up his playing boots in 2008 after a brief spell with French side Lille.

He scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for Holland.
