Barcelona are keen for winger Cristian Tello to remain at the Camp Nou, despite serious interest from Liverpool.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Tello’s agent Josep Maria Orobitg has been meeting Barcelona officials today to field an improved contract offer for the starlet, whose current deal with the Spanish giants expires in 2013.

Barcelona are offering Tello a substantial pay rise, while also stressing that he will receive minutes on the pitch as part of Tito Vilanova’s senior squad, though he will continue to turn out for the club’s B team too.

Tello has been persistently linked with English Premier League outfit Liverpool in recent days, who are spying taking the 21-year-old to Anfield, either on loan or through a permanent deal.

The latter appears to have been killed dead however, with Barcelona’s firm desire to keep Tello, while the player, who turned out for Espanyol for a short time, breaking up his period at the Camp Nou, is also keen to remain with the Blaugrana.

It would then be a surprise were Tello to depart Barcelona this summer, although much hinges on whether the player finds the new deal on the table at the Catalan giants to be financially acceptable and is reassured by promises of senior football.

The speedy winger made his La Liga debut for Barcelona in January, taking his bow away against eventually relegated Villarreal.
