Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is still looking to secure at least two more signings this summer and is keen on adding a defender and a midfielder to his squad.
The Gunners have had a hectic transfer window, which has seen three big names sign for the North London club, but also two of the team’s top players move on to greener pastures.
German striker Lukas Podolski, French international Olivier Giroud and Spanish wingerr Santi Cazorla have arrived at the Emirates Stadium, only to see Dutch striker Robin van Persie leave for Manchester United and Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song for Barcelona.
And according to the Arsenal manager, the club have very much not finished their activity in the transfer market just yet and are looking to secure the signature of a midfielder and defender.
“We are looking to bring one more midfielder in of course, and maybe one defender as well because we still feel we are short in some positions”, said the 62-year-old French tactician, to his club’s official site.
The Frenchman is keen on quickly signing a replacement for new Barcelona man Song, with Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin and Rennes star Yann M’Vila two names that have been mooted as the players that interest the Emirates outfit.
Moreover, it appears that Wenger is worried about the side’s lack of defensive cover after the departure of Song and wants to draft in a versatile defender too.
The statement also puts an end to speculation linking Arsenal with attacking midfielder targets and forwards.
