Swansea City are set to put the finishing touches to a deal for South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng today, with boss Michael Laudrup excited at signing the 23-year-old.

The Premier League outfit will pay £6M to Scottish giants Celtic to snare Ki, who should undergo a medical with Swansea later today, before officially signing a contract with his new club.

For the Swans, Ki’s arrival is a crucial piece of business as Laudrup well admits, because the side need to replace Joe Allen, who was sold to Liverpool earlier this month.

"He is an important player to have in midfield", Laudrup was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We lost Joe Allen of course, so it is important looking at the strength of the squad and to have a dynamic player like that.

"The players we have signed here and the players we will sign are players that can fit into our style.

"He has already played a couple of seasons in British football and that is very important. The players who have come in from abroad have had a great start but I think experience of this kind of football is important as well."

Ki joined Celtic in 2010, costing the Scottish side £2.1M to buy from FC Seoul.
