Liverpool have announced that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to loan midfielder Nuri Sahin for the season.

The Reds have been chasing Sahin for much of the last month and went head-to-head for the player’s signature with fellow English Premier League side Arsenal.

After much negotiation and what amounted to a transfer saga, Brendan Rodgers’ men have now won the race and will snap up Sahin subject to a medical.

It is believed that Liverpool will pay around 70% of the Turkey midfielder’s wages, with Real Madrid footing the rest of the bill.

Sahin only joined Real Madrid last summer from Borussia Dortmund, but was unable to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s midfield and played just 128 minutes of football in La Liga.

Mourinho has been keen for the 23-year-old to spent the current campaign at a club where he would enjoy more playing time.

It is unclear whether any option to purchase Sahin permanently forms part of the loan deal.
