Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they have agreed to sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid.

The Croatian playmaker has been close to a move to the Bernabeu all summer and agreed the outline of a contract with the Spanish champions some time ago. However, the agreement of terms between both clubs has taken some time to iron out.

At one point, so desperate to push his move to Real Madrid through was Modric, that he skipped Spurs’ pre-season tour of the United States, something which resulted in a heavy fine being imposed on the player.

Now though Modric is poised to finally seal his dream move to Los Blancos, subject to a medical.

"The club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club", announced Tottenham in a statement, stressing that the deal forms part of a wider cooperation agreement.

"The partnership agreement will see the two clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was quick to express his delight, commenting: "The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric.

"We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years."

Spurs are believed to have realised a fee of around €35M from selling Modric to Real Madrid.
