Dutch winger Royston Drenthe has joined Turkish giants Besiktas on a free transfer.

Drenthe has been a free agent since his release by Real Madrid earlier this summer and has been linked with a number of clubs.

Now the 25-year-old will play his football in Turkey, having inked a four-year contract with the Black Eagles.

The former Feyenoord star spent last season on loan at English Premier League outfit Everton in what was his second successive loan spell away from Real Madrid; Drenthe was previously at Spanish side Hercules.

He joined Real Madrid in 2007 from Feyenoord, but despite enjoying some initial success at the Bernabeu, was unable to establish himself as a first team regular.

Drenthe’s arrival will go some way towards making up for Besiktas’ recent loss of Simao Sabrosa to Espanyol.
