Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has revealed that he believes his proposed move to French giants Marseille has broken down.

Barton, who is serving a 12-match ban with QPR due to violent conduct at the end of last season, was hopeful of making the switch to France and even claimed that his heart was already at the Stade Velodrome.

Affording Barton’s wages was always threatening to be a problem for Marseille, while the club’s coach Elie Baup recently insisted it is a defender, and not a midfielder, that is his current priority in the transfer window.

And Barton’s chances of joining up with Baup on the French south coast have been damaged.

"Doesn’t look like this Marseille thing is gonna[sic] happen now", announced Barton on his Twitter account.

He also insisted that he is back training with the youth players at Loftus Road.

"Been forced to go back training with the kids and fellow Taliban members at 2pm today", added the midfielder.
