Malaga have completed the signing of Argentine striker Javier Saviola.

The 30-year-old had been released by Portuguese giants Benfica and will now continue his career in La Liga.

Saviola has penned a one-year contract with Manuel Pellegrini’s men and will be a welcome reinforcement for the Spanish side, who recently booked a spot in the Champions League group stage.

The River Plate youth product has played for some of the biggest clubs in world football.

He took a leap to Europe with Barcelona in 2001, but failed to hit the heights expected at the Camp Nou and was sent on loan to Monaco and Sevilla.

In 2007 Saviola joined Barcelona’s fierce rivals Real Madrid, staying for two years at the Bernabeu before signing for Benfica.

The striker enjoyed success in Portugal, picking up one SuperLiga title and three Portuguese League Cups.
