Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger watched his side ease to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield yesterday and instantly declared himself pleased with his new signings.

Two of Wenger’s summer buys found the back of the net on Merseyside, Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla, while another, Olivier Giroud, looked well up to Premier League standard.

Another clean sheet for the Gunners, combined with promising signs from the new arrivals, left Wenger heading back to London happy.

"Everybody understood very quickly that Cazorla would not take six months to settle and Podolski is deadly when there is a chance, you see that in training", the Frenchman told his club’s official site.

"He showed good team work as well today, and I am pleased for them."

The Arsenal boss also stressed that Giroud only needs a goal and then more are sure to flow from the man who was Ligue 1 top scorer last season.

"Just Giroud needs a goal, but as long as the team wins we know that will come."

Arsenal’s next match is not now until 15th September due to the international break, when Southampton are the visitors to the Emirates Stadium.

Then the club’s Champions League campaign begins, with a trip to France to play Giroud’s former club Montpellier the Gunners’ first clash of the group stage.
