Andre Ayew has insisted that he never wanted to leave Marseille this summer and is delighted to still be at the Stade Velodrome.

With the budget cut at Marseille, the French giants had to offload several stars, including Cesar Azpilicueta, Alou Diarra and Stephane Mbia – and Ayew was consistently linked with the exit door as one of the players who would bring in a considerable amount.

The 22-year-old though did not want to play his football away from the Stade Velodrome and has been quick to point out that, despite the masses of speculation surrounding his future, it was only Marseille that he wanted to be with this season.

"I never said I wanted to go, despite what was written", Ayew told Marseille’s official website.

"The leaders, the president, Jose Anigo [sporting director, ed.] know that I am here and that I want to stay.

"If the leaders had wanted me to leave because of the financial situation at the club, that is something else.

"It would have got to me because I want to continue with Marseille and I have not thought of leaving. Now, we’ll try to stay together and to have a good year."

Ayew is rated as one of Marseille’s top talents and, had the French club been looking to cash in, there would have been no shortage of offers.

The Ghana international is a product of Marseille’s youth system and made his senior debut in 2007.

He is under contract with the club until 2015.
