Robert Lewandowski has refused to completely quash talk that he could choose not to extend his contract at Borussia Dortmund and may exit the club in the near future, only saying he "cannot rule anything out".
The prolific goalscorer was heavily linked with following former Dortmund team-mate Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United in the summer transfer window but, much to Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp’s relief, stayed put.
However, the Poland international’s contract with the Ruhr giants expires in 2014 and, should he not pen an extension, Dortmund may be forced to reluctantly look at cashing in on Lewandowski in January or next summer, in a similar fashion to Kagawa; the Japanese schemer had just one year left on his deal with the club this summer.
And with Lewandowski’s stock having skyrocketed over the course of the last Bundesliga season and during Euro 2012, combined with his stated desire to play Premier League football, interest can be expected to be high given any hint that he wants a move.
"For me it is normal", the Polish star told Sport Bild, speaking about the speculation which has surrounded him.
"I am familiar with the situation. Even while playing for Lech Poznan, every winter and every summer interested teams appeared.
"But it is not important anymore. I am continuing to be a Borussia Dortmund player."
He did concede though that attention from other clubs had piqued his interest, especially Bayern Munich.
"It is always interesting and you have to think about it. It is such a big club."
On his contract situation however, Lewandowski was non-committal, insisting that he has a crucial decision to make over whether to ink a fresh deal.
"I have two more years on my contract. That is a long time. I don’t have to decide today whether to renew or not. I am not setting myself a limit.
"I do not know what will happen after the season. I cannot and don’t want to rule anything out."
