Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri is eyeing a swoop for Gianluigi Buffon, according to Italian daily Tuttosport
It is an ambitious plan for Ranieri, given that the 34-year-old is still rated as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
relatedNewsStory Buffon has also been continually vocal about his commitment to current club Juventus, who he helped to the Serie A title last season.
Ranieri will have to be at his persuasive best to convince the glovesman to swap Italy for France; next summer the former Inter boss would hope to be able to offer Buffon Ligue 1 football, with Monaco having gained promotion from Ligue 2.
Money is no object for Monaco, backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who completed a majority shareholding takeover of the club in December, 2011.
Buffon could therefore be offered a lucrative contract were he to choose to swap Turin for the principality.
The Italian shot-stopper looks likely to extend his deal with Juventus until 2016 however, making Ranieri’s task even harder.
Monaco currently sit top of France’s Ligue 2.
The club have long term ambitions to challenge Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the French game.
