Barcelona and Real Madrid played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the first La Liga Clasico of the season last night.
It was a match full of action and incident, and predictably dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
relatedNewsStoryBarcelona enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession, but Real Madrid always looked dangerous on the break.
Real Madrid took the lead, against the run of play, in the 23rd minute, when Cristano Ronaldo fired home from a tight angle in the box.
The lead did not last long though and Messi got his name on the scoresheet in the 31st minute.
In the second half, Messi converted a free kick just on the hour mark, curling it over the Real Madrid wall and getting it to dip into the top left hand side of Iker Casillas’ goal.
However, a mistake by the Barcelona defence was seized upon by Ronaldo just five minutes later – and the match was level once again.
The result leaves Barcelona top of La Liga on 19 points, still eight ahead of Real Madrid, who now sit fifth on 11 points.
