Liverpool have suffered a huge injury blow with the news that striker Fabio Borini has broken a bone in his foot.
Borini, who joined Liverpool in the summer from Roma, picked up the injury while on international duty with Italy; the 21-year-old had been training with Italy’s Under-21s in preparation for their match against Sweden.
relatedNewsStoryIt is unclear just how long a spell on the sidelines Borini will be facing, but the news is potentially very serious for Liverpool.
While Borini has yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League, he is only one of two out and out strikers, apart from untested youngsters, at Anfield.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers took the decision to allow England international Andy Carroll to join West Ham on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window.
Rodgers had not lined up a replacement though and was unable to agree a fee with Fulham for Clint Dempsey on deadline day.
The Reds then tried to snap up Alessandro Del Piero, who recently revealed that it was the events of the Heysel disaster which caused him to join Australian A-League side Sydney FC instead.
Now Liverpool face a further thinning of their goalscoring options, with more of the burden falling upon Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez.
