Genoa defender Andreas Granqvist is flattered by interest in his services from English giants Liverpool.

Granqvist, who was targeted by AC Milan over the summer, has been mooted as a target for the Reds and the 27-year-old could not be happier to hear his fine performances in Italy have popped him onto Liverpool’s wanted list.

The Sweden international does stress that he does not know too much about Liverpool’s interest in him, but news of it has reached his ears.

"Frankly, I do not know too much about this interest", the defender, who enjoyed a spell with another English side in the shape of Wigan Athletic between 2007 and 2008, told Sportbladet.

"I am happy and I am enjoying my time at Genoa, but of course I am flattered by interest from the Reds", he continued.


"It is a historic and successful club."

Granqvist joined Genoa in the summer of 2011, switching from Dutch Eredivisie outfit Groningen.

He is already one of the Italian side’s key players.

In addition to Milan, Granqvist attracted interest from Lazio in the summer, but no deal was able to be thrashed out.

The Swede is under contract with Genoa until 2015.
