Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been awarded the 2012 Golden Foot, being presented the trophy at a ceremony in Monaco by Prince Albert II.

The Golden Foot is awarded each year to players over 29 years old who have stood out in respect of their performances, personality and the esteem in which they are held in football, by the media and public alike.

relatedNewsStoryIbrahimovic has enjoyed a superb 2012 so far, with goalscoring exploits at the start of the year with AC Milan – he scored 28 goals in 32 Serie A games for the Rossoneri last season – which have been continued at Paris Saint-Germain, the club he joined in the summer.

So far, Ibrahimovic, who turned 31 years old earlier this month, has netted nine goals in just seven Ligue 1 games for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

The winner of last year’s Golden Foot was Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs.

Ibrahimovic finished ahead of Didier Drogba, in second, and Andrea Pirlo, in third, in this year’s standings.

The Sweden international appears to be at the very peak of his powers and he helped his country mount a remarkable comeback against Germany earlier this week in their 2014 World Cup qualifier.

4-0 down, with time running out in the second half, Ibrahimovic scored to spark a comeback, with the game ultimately ending 4-4.
