PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands has revealed that the Dutch side tried to loan Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea, but failed.

The Eredivisie giants wanted to form a close relationship with the Champions League winners, which would have seen talents head to the Philips Stadion to aid their development.

But Chelsea have since begun to cooperate closely with another Dutch club, Vitesse, who currently boasts three players on loan from the Stamford Bridge outfit.

"Last season we tried to meet up with Chelsea for Lukaku", Brands told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"In a similar way, we tried to snare goalkeeper Courtois."

Brand explained though that, due to Chelsea’s Vitesse relationship, PSV are focusing their efforts on Manchester City.

"Now Chelsea are no longer an option, because they cooperate with Vitesse.

"We [now] have good contacts with Manchester City."

PSV will hope to be able to take some of the Citizens’ talented youngsters to Holland in the near future, as they look to build a side capable of winning their first title since 2008.
