Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas believes that what should drive Spurs on against Chelsea is the desire to gain revenge over the Blues for missing out on this season’s Champions League, and not personal issues surrounding his sacking at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League last season, but by virtue of Chelsea winning the Champions League and qualifying automatically as holders, missed out on their spot at Europe’s top table.

relatedNewsStoryThe meeting in the Premier League between Spurs and Chelsea at White Hart Lane tomorrow has been written from the narrative of Villas-Boas gaining some sort of personal revenge for being sacked by the Blues last season – but the Portuguese wants the pain of missing out on the Champions League to power his players.

"I am a very emotional person, but at the end it counts for three points in the league", Villas-Boas told the BBC Football Focus programme.

"The biggest reward that I could get out of this game is that Tottenham could win against the European champions.

"And they took Tottenham out of the Champions League in the present, which they should be entitled to, which should drive the fans in this game."

It remains to be seen whether Villas-Boas’ men can stop a Chelsea side which has been in inspired form in the Premier League so far this season.

Currently the Blues top the pile, with a four-point lead over Manchester United and Manchester City.

Chelsea can also call upon players that Villas-Boas did not have the pleasure of working with last season, having bolstered their squad with the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar.
