Belgium Jupiler Pro League club Gent have sacked coach Trond Sollied.
Gent lost at home 1-0 at the weekend against KV Kortrijk and have won just one of their last six games – but the side still sit a comfortable seventh in the overall standings.
However, there had been question marks raised by the club’s president and sporting director over the players’ motivation on the pitch and Sollied has paid the price for a failure to convince.
Gent provided the Norwegian’s first job outside his homeland in 1999 and he remained for a season before heading to take charge of Club Brugge.
From there Sollied moved to Greece, bossing Super League giants Olympiacos, before once again rejoining Gent in 2007.
Sollied managed Heerenveen, Al-Ahli and Lierse before landing back at Gent for a third spell in the summer of 2011.

Sollied will no doubt hope to quickly get back into employment.
