Holland international goalkeeper Michel Vorm looks set to miss between six and eight weeks through injury.
The 29-year-old Swansea City shot-stopper was stretchered off in the Welsh side’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester City in the Premier League yesterday.
Swansea have now confirmed that a scan has revealed a groin rupture and he will need to spend at least six weeks, and possibly eight weeks, on the sidelines.
"Michel has a partial rupture of his adductor muscle. You are looking at six to eight weeks out", announced Swansea head physio Kate Rees on the club’s official site.
The Premier League outfit will now be without Vorm for all of November, with the goalkeeper targeting a return for Swansea’s games over the Christmas period in late December.
Boss Michael Laudrup admitted that the injury is a blow for the club, but insisted that Vorm’s understudy, German shot-stopper Gerhard Tremmel, will now have a chance to impress.
relatedNewsStory"It’s a big blow for us because Michel is a very good goalkeeper who has been playing well", said Laudrup.
"This gives a chance to Gerhard Tremmel and we have lots of confidence in him. We have big games coming up against Liverpool and Chelsea this week and I am sure Gerhard will be ready."
Next up for Swansea is a League Cup clash away at Liverpool, which brings Reds boss Brendan Rodgers face to face with the club he left to head to Anfield in the summer.
