Former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel is hoping that new Holland coach Louis van Gaal will give him another chance with the Oranje.
Babel has returned to Dutch football, joining Ajax in the summer on a free transfer from Hoffenheim, after he bought out the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
It was the end to a disappointing time at Hoffenheim, where he struggled to score goals or make much of an impact in the Bundesliga, repeatedly falling foul of the club’s coaches.
Babel also failed to hit the heights expected at Liverpool; indeed, a return to Ajax, the club at which he started his career, is viewed in some quarters as the 25-year-old’s last shot at becoming a top player.
The player’s international ambitions remain undimmed though and he is desperate to add to his current total of 42 caps.
And Babel thinks Van Gaal may wipe the slate clean and allow him to do just that.
relatedNewsStory"I think if you do well at your club, you’ll get a chance", said the forward.
"I think that Van Gaal has already shown the examples of that."
Babel also stated his belief that he could have helped Holland during Euro 2012 in the summer, had he been picked; the Oranje were eliminated at the group stage.
"I was fit and in shape to play at the European Championship.
"I think I could have definitely contributed.
"Joining Hoffenheim cost me my place."
