Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby admits it is his dream to play in England and stressed that, despite his father being a diehard Everton fan, he would have no problem turning out in the red shirt of Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are thought to be keen on the 22-year-old, along with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, and Schalke know they have a battle on their hands to keep hold of a player whose contract in Gelsenkirchen is due to expire next summer.

The midfielder’s agent has already confirmed that the player has concrete offers from clubs in England and Spain, which has put the ball squarely in his court regarding his future, with a sense of urgency.

And Holtby has handed encouragement to his Premier League suitors by admitting he sees himself playing football in England at some point.

"I’ve always said that I will play in England one day", the Schalke star told German daily Bild.

"I don’t even exclude Liverpool, even though it would be a real blow to my father, who is a diehard Everton fan."

Holtby has made ten appearances in the Bundesliga for Huub Stevens’ men so far, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Schalke will be desperate to try and tie Holtby to a new contract before January, at which time he would be free to sign a pre-contractual agreement with another club.
