Federico Macheda’s agent believes that the striker is poised to head away from Manchester United in the January transfer window due to a lack of first team opportunities.
The Italian hitman has slipped well down the pecking order at Old Trafford and the summer arrivals of Robin van Persie and Angelo Henriquez have further increased the competition for a striking role under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Macheda’s agent, the former Parma defender Giovanni Bia, sounded the warning about his client’s situation last month, revealing he was seeking a meeting with Ferguson to resolve the 21-year-old’s situation.
And it does appear that Bia’s client is heading towards the Old Trafford exit door.
"Federico is not finding space at this time and it is clear that in January he will leave", Bia told Tutto Mercato.
However, the player’s representative stressed that he does not believe a return to his homeland will be on the agenda for the striker, unless he can be guaranteed a starting spot for the long term.
"I don’t think that he will return to Italy because usually in January clubs are looking for players that are already established.

Macheda had a loan spell back in his homeland with Sampdoria in 2011, while he spent time on loan with Premier League side QPR at the end of last season.
