The agent of young Chilean defender Igor Lichnovsky has confirmed contact with clubs from England and elsewhere over signing his client, while revealing that the player is seeking a European Union passport, which would smooth the transfer process.

The 18-year-old defender is rated as a star of the future and has been the cause of a great many scouts booking tickets to Chile to watch him in action for club side Universidad de Chile.

Lichnovsky made his debut for Universidad de Chile last year, shining and showing maturity beyond his years in the "Clasico Universitario" against Universidad Catolica.

The defender has also impressed with Chile’s youth teams at international level.

Lichnovsky has been strongly linked with Champions League winners Chelsea, while Italian giants Inter are also thought to be keen to tempt him to Serie A.

And a move could not be too far away for the stopper, with his agent also confirming that a European Union passport is being sought for his client.

"At the moment there is nothing official, but only informal enquiries", the player’s representative Alejandro Santisteban told Calcio Mercato.

relatedNewsStory"Several teams, including from England, have asked us about Igor, who is playing consistently at the moment.

"A European Union passport? We’re working on that and we could get it because he has ties in Europe."

And specifically on a possible switch to Italy, Santisteban said: "Of course, Italy would be a welcome destination.

"He has great potential and it is no coincidence that several scouts have followed him and continue to follow him, but to date there has not been a written and official offer, but only informal chats."
